Faridabad, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : The National Commission for Women (NCW) is set to conduct a two-day workshop titled “She is a Changemaker” in Faridabad on September 7-8. Chaired by NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, the workshop aims to focus on gender equality for women legislators.
The event will feature Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla as the chief guest, alongside Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Approximately 22 states will be represented by women legislators who will discuss key governance aspects with an emphasis on women’s leadership and gender equality. Topics of focus will include effective public leadership and decision-making, gender budgeting, safeguarding women’s rights, support mechanisms for women in crisis, the implementation of women-centric welfare schemes, and the role of self-help groups in promoting economic empowerment and grassroots leadership.
Vijaya Rahatkar emphasized that meaningful participation of women in governance is essential for building an inclusive, accountable, and equitable society. She noted that women legislators bring invaluable perspectives and personal experiences to policy-making and public decision processes. Through the “She is a Changemaker” initiative, the NCW aims to enhance their leadership capabilities and provide them with the knowledge, tools, and platforms needed for more effective contributions in governance. Gender-responsive governance is not just about policies for women; it is about ensuring that women are equal partners in shaping the policies and decisions that define our society.
The workshop aims to provide a platform for women legislators to share experiences, enhance leadership skills, and develop effective governance structures with a focus on gender equality. It will also contribute to a better understanding of the policy, institutional, and implementation mechanisms that can strengthen women’s participation in public life and governance.
This workshop is part of the NCW’s major initiative “She is a Changemaker,” under which the Commission has conducted over 200 capacity-building programs for elected women representatives across the country. These programs are designed to strengthen the leadership capacity of women representatives and enable their more effective participation in governance and public life.
Through this initiative, the NCW continues to promote women’s leadership at various levels of governance and create platforms for elected women representatives to enhance their capabilities, share best practices, and contribute more effectively to the development process.
