Sangrur, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : A controversy has erupted following allegations of police torture against a Sikh youth who displayed a black flag during a public event led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has seized on this incident to criticize the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and is demanding a thorough investigation.
On Saturday, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi addressed the issue, questioning Chief Minister Mann’s response to the situation. In a video message shared on social media, Trivedi stated that if it is true that an individual was assaulted while in police custody, and that Mann was present, the Punjab government must provide a clear explanation.
He emphasized that the allegations directly implicate the Chief Minister, urging him to clarify the events that transpired and to facilitate an independent investigation. Trivedi argued that evidence such as call records and digital footage could reveal the truth. He warned that a lack of transparency from the Punjab government raises serious concerns about its commitment to constitutional values, human rights, and legal processes.
Trivedi’s comments reflect broader anxieties regarding the protection of constitutional and legal norms in such cases. Earlier, he had also held a press conference addressing the demolition of a mosque in Saharanpur and issues surrounding the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). He maintained that the agencies involved in the Saharanpur incident were acting within legal bounds and that the situation should not be viewed through a political lens.
Regarding the JPSC investigation, Trivedi expressed shock at the findings, suggesting that they expose the reality of the Congress-led India bloc’s stance on student interests. He claimed that evidence indicated a breach of security protocols during the examination for positions like Assistant Conservator of Forests, suggesting that the incident was not merely a paper leak but an outright theft of examination materials. He urged Rahul Gandhi to answer for who is enabling such misconduct.
