Tragic School Shooting in the Philippines Claims Three Young Lives

Manila, June 22: Security officials in the Philippines have arrested two students in connection with a school shooting that occurred in Tacloban City on Monday. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of three minors and left seven others injured.

Authorities have recovered two firearms used in the shooting, including a .38 caliber revolver and a 9mm Glock pistol.

The Philippine National Police stated that an investigation is underway to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case, including any potential motives.

Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO) was promptly dispatched after reports of gunfire among students at San Jose National High School.

On their Facebook page, TCPO identified the two suspects as ‘Rod’ and ‘Nash,’ confirming their detention in accordance with laws and safety regulations concerning minors.

According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA), both accused students are in the ninth grade.

The TCPO expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured the public that a thorough and impartial investigation is being conducted to reveal the truth and hold those responsible accountable.

In response to the shooting, additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to ensure the safety of students, school staff, parents, and local residents.

Following the incident, the Tacloban City administration has suspended classes at San Jose National High School, as well as nearby San Jose Central School and Mainlurip Elementary School.

Officials are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the TCPO.

The police have also visited schools in northern barangay areas to discuss security measures.

The TCPO reported that the purpose of these visits is to assess the security situation around schools, provide information on safety protocols, and strengthen coordination among school officials, local leaders, and law enforcement to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school staff.
