New Delhi, June 22: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with a senior Ethiopian security official during the BRICS NSA meeting to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two nations.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on the social media platform ‘X’ that, “On Monday, during the 16th BRICS National Security Advisors (NSA) meeting, NSA Ajit Doval met with Milion Lema Tadesse, Executive Director of the Analysis Department of Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS). Both sides discussed various areas of collaboration to further strengthen and deepen the India-Ethiopia strategic partnership.”
This meeting, chaired by India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, included participation from senior officials such as China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu, and Iran’s security representative Nezami.
The ministry’s statement noted, “During the meeting, the national security advisors and heads of delegations from BRICS member countries will exchange views on the theme of ‘non-traditional security challenges facing the world today.’”
This meeting is crucial as India pushes forward discussions on global governance, security cooperation, and technological challenges within BRICS. The group has increasingly focused on strategic and security concerns affecting member nations, moving beyond just economic issues.
Given the recent developments related to Iran and regional tensions, this meeting holds significant importance. It is also seen as a vital step in preparation for the upcoming BRICS summit scheduled to take place in India in September.
Discussions are expected to cover topics such as cross-border terrorism, the security situation in West Asia, emerging geopolitical crises, and strengthening security cooperation among BRICS countries.
Iran has been a full member of BRICS since January 2024, and its role within the group has been steadily increasing in recent years. Thus, this security meeting in New Delhi is regarded as a significant move towards enhancing strategic coordination among member nations.
