Mumbai, June 26: Sanjay Nirupam, spokesperson for Shiv Sena, addressed the recent defection of six MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) to the Eknath Shinde faction. He asserted that the entire process was conducted within constitutional and legal boundaries. The party is confident that all necessary rules and procedures were followed in this matter.
Speaking to reporters, Nirupam stated, “Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has already made it clear that no political campaign from his party is incomplete or unsuccessful. The decision of the six MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) to join him was made entirely through legal processes. If the remaining MPs of Shiv Sena (UBT) wish to meet the Lok Sabha Speaker to file a complaint, it is their right, but our party firmly believes that their legal standing is strong.”
Nirupam also launched a sharp attack on the Congress party. He accused them of trying to mislead the public and spreading misinformation following their continuous electoral defeats. During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress had accused the BJP of intending to alter the Constitution. While some voters were swayed by these allegations at the time, Nirupam noted that no such actions have been taken by the government in the two years since.
He emphasized, “The Constitution is the foundation of our democratic system, and any talk of abolishing or changing it is merely political propaganda. Amendments to the Constitution have occurred over time and are a normal part of the democratic process. Were there no amendments during Congress’s rule?”
On the issue of reservations, he dismissed Congress’s claims, stating, “The central government is not working to abolish reservations but is instead focused on providing more opportunities to socially disadvantaged groups. The proposals related to delimitation included increasing the number of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats, along with enhancing representation for women, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes. Therefore, claims of abolishing reservations are baseless.”
Nirupam also expressed concern over the recovery of sharp weapons from a tempo in the Dindoshi area of Mumbai. He stated, “There should be a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter to determine the purpose for which the weapons were brought. If there was any conspiracy to incite violence or unrest, the culprits should be identified and strict action taken against them.”
Regarding the return of Kashmiri Pandits, Nirupam remarked, “The rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits displaced from the valley years ago is a matter of national importance. After the abrogation of Article 370, the security situation has improved, and the process for the gradual return of Kashmiri Pandits is underway. Rehabilitation plans must be effectively implemented to ensure that displaced families do not face any further injustice.”
