Mumbai, May 17: Actress Saba Azad has expressed that society still struggles to fully accept ambitious women. She acknowledged that while discussions about equality and progress are prevalent, women often have to work significantly harder than men to prove themselves.
In a candid conversation, she pointed out that our social structure has long been designed with men’s success in mind. Consequently, women must exert double the effort to carve out their identities.
When asked if society still finds it difficult to accept ambitious women, Saba replied that we continue to live in a patriarchal society. Women are often judged quickly, and they must continually prove themselves at every step.
She stated, “Women often have to work twice as hard to validate their presence. We still live in a patriarchal society where opinions about women are formed hastily. In many parts of our country, women are not allowed the freedom to work or make their own decisions. While this reality may not always be visible in urban areas, it certainly exists. Therefore, women must consistently prove themselves—not just at work, but also at home. If they work, they face criticism; if they don’t, they are still scrutinized.”
Saba further noted that expectations from women never seem to diminish, making their struggles even more challenging.
When questioned about male ego, she remarked that society still operates under a male-dominated mindset. Many men are taught from a young age that they are superior to women. Thus, when they encounter strong, independent women, their beliefs are challenged, which can hurt their egos.
However, Saba believes that change comes through learning. She emphasized that society can only progress by accepting the truth. According to her, strong women always offer valuable lessons.
She concluded, “Whenever I meet a strong woman, my first thought is to learn from her. Women can effortlessly manage multiple tasks and possess an emotional strength that society often overlooks. There is so much to learn from them.”
