RS Chairman Appeals for Productive Budget Session

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday urged all members of Parliament to cooperate fully in making the ongoing budget session productive and meaningful. He emphasised that this session presents a crucial opportunity to advance the country towards a prosperous, self-reliant, and developed India.

At the start of the session, he said, “Let us come together to make this budget session successful and reflect the highest standards of Parliament.”

The Chairman outlined that during the 30 sittings of this session, the Union Budget for 2026-27 along with several government bills will be examined in detail. Additionally, the relevant departmental standing committees will conduct in-depth scrutiny of ministry and department demands during the recess period.

Pointing to India’s recent economic achievements, he expressed satisfaction that the country remains the fastest-growing major economy globally and is on track to become the third largest economy soon. He reminded all members that India’s growing global influence and economic contribution bring significant responsibilities and call for appropriate conduct.

The Chairman appealed to MPs to contribute effectively not only in the House debates but also within committees. He stressed that democratic values, discipline, and prudence should be evident in parliamentary conduct, reflecting the ideals set by Mahatma Gandhi.

Referring to Gandhi’s words, he said, “Democracy, if disciplined and sensible, is the greatest thing in the world. We must demonstrate this in our behaviour.”

He further stated that besides the budget, several important bills require discussion and decisions during this session. Given the magnitude of the work, every minute must be utilised well to meet public expectations.

Chairman Radhakrishnan requested all members to engage in rigorous but respectful debates, maintaining transparency and strict discipline to ensure proper consideration of all proposals. He underlined that diverse opinions and open discussions are essential in democracy, but must always be carried out with mutual respect.

He concluded with a call, “Let us commit to a session marked by dignity, discipline, and decorum.”
