RPF Rescues 584 Individuals and Saves 25 Lives in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 17: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway has successfully reunited 584 vulnerable children and adults with their families between January and April 2026. Additionally, they saved 25 passengers from life-threatening accidents.

According to Central Railway, RPF personnel have maintained round-the-clock security of railway properties and ensured passenger safety while continuing their vital humanitarian role.

Under the nationwide campaign ‘Operation Nanha Farishta,’ aimed at rescuing and safeguarding vulnerable children found within railway premises, the RPF rescued a total of 499 children over four months. This group included 331 boys and 168 girls. Officials reported that the rescued children comprised runaways, missing minors, orphans, and those in urgent need of care and protection.

The rescued children were either safely reunited with their families or handed over to child welfare committees and NGOs for further rehabilitation and care.

Central Railway officials stated that this campaign reflects the RPF’s commitment to the safety and protection of children at railway stations and on trains.

In another humanitarian initiative, ‘Operation Dignity,’ the RPF rescued 85 needy adults during the same period. This group included 38 men and 47 women.

Officials indicated that the goal of this operation was to identify individuals in need, including the homeless, mentally ill, or abandoned, and ensure they received timely assistance and rehabilitation support.

Meanwhile, under ‘Operation Jeevan Raksha,’ RPF personnel saved 25 passengers from fatal accidents while boarding or alighting from moving trains. The rescued individuals included 20 male and five female passengers.

Officials noted that this operation highlighted the vigilance and quick response of RPF personnel stationed at railway stations. Their swift intervention helped prevent numerous unfortunate incidents.

Central Railway emphasized that the RPF continues to evolve beyond a mere security force, acting as a compassionate branch of Indian Railways through various public service initiatives.

Railway authorities advised citizens to use the railway helpline number 139 for assistance in such matters.
