Rising Tensions in the Middle East: Iraqi Kataib Hezbollah Warns Against U.S. Military Action

Baghdad, June 8: The Iraqi Shia militia, Kata’ib Hezbollah, has issued a stern warning that it will target U.S. military bases in Iraq and the wider region if the United States engages in any military action against Iran.

In a brief statement on its website, the group declared, “If the U.S. intervenes in this conflict, we will attack its bases and interests in Iraq and the region.”

This warning comes in the wake of Iran launching multiple missile strikes towards Israel on Sunday evening. Air raid sirens were activated across large parts of northern Israel, although the Israeli military reported that it intercepted these missile attacks. Meanwhile, Iraq’s Civil Aviation Authority announced a temporary closure of the country’s airspace for 72 hours.

The missile strikes triggered sirens in several areas of northern Israel, but there have been no reports of injuries or significant damage.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it targeted Israel’s Ramat David airbase with ballistic missiles, claiming the action was a response to Israel’s “extensive crimes” in Lebanon.

According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars, Commander Ali Abdollahi of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters warned on Sunday night that if Israel escalates its attacks on southern Lebanon and the Dahieh area of Beirut, it would face “even harsher and regretful” retaliatory strikes.

In response, Israel conducted attacks on military bases in western and central Iran early Monday morning. Following the missile barrage from Iran, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed to have launched airstrikes on these military installations. Reports from IRNA, citing Tehran’s firefighting department, indicated that residents of western Tehran heard two explosions around 4:43 AM and 4:45 AM, although no explosions were confirmed in any urban areas.
