Trump and Netanyahu Discuss Tensions Amid Iranian Missile Strikes

Jerusalem, June 8: U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday following a barrage of Iranian missiles targeting Israel in response to airstrikes in Beirut. This information was reported by Israel’s state television channel, Kan TV.

However, neither Netanyahu’s office nor Trump’s office issued an immediate official statement regarding the phone call.

Before the call, Trump advised Israeli Channel 12 News that he would recommend Netanyahu refrain from retaliatory strikes, as he aims to prevent the ongoing ceasefire negotiations between the U.S. and Iran from collapsing.

Trump stated to Fox News, “I would tell Iran that you have launched your missiles, now stop. Come back to the negotiating table and make a deal.”

He also claimed that Washington and Tehran were very close to an agreement before the missile launches occurred.

“We were very close. I believe that by this coming Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, we could have signed an agreement. But now this incident has happened,” Trump remarked.

He added, “This certainly will not help advance the negotiations.”

According to CNN, Iran launched at least ten ballistic missiles toward Israel on Sunday. These missiles were fired in three separate waves. The Israeli military reported that all missiles were intercepted mid-flight.

Two Israeli sources cited by CNN indicated that Israel would respond strongly to the attack, raising concerns about escalating tensions in the region.

The Israeli military reported that, so far, four waves of missile attacks from Iran have been directed at Israel.

Currently, there are no reports of injuries or significant damage. However, sirens were activated in several areas of northern Israel due to these missile attacks.
