Jerusalem, June 8: The Israeli military reported on Sunday night that Iran has launched four missile strikes towards Israel. So far, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Sirens have sounded in several areas of northern Israel due to these missile attacks.
According to the Xinhua news agency, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Efi Defrin stated that Iran made a “grave mistake” by firing missiles. He added that the military is fully prepared for any potential missile attacks.
Defrin mentioned that IDF Chief Ayal Zamir is reviewing the situation and approving plans for further actions, although he did not provide additional details.
In response to the Iranian attacks, Israel’s Home Front Command has tightened security regulations across the country. Gatherings of more than 200 people in open spaces have been prohibited. Indoor events are limited to a maximum of 500 attendees, provided there are secure shelters available. Schools and beaches have also been closed, with these directives taking immediate effect.
The Israeli military has advised citizens to remain near bunkers and secure rooms, as further missile attacks are anticipated.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement claiming it targeted Israel’s Ramat David Airbase with ballistic missiles in retaliation for Israel’s “extensive operations” in Lebanon.
According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars, Commander Ali Abdollahi from Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters warned that if Israel escalates its attacks in southern Lebanon and the Dahieh area of Beirut, it would face consequences that it would deeply regret.
This Iranian action came after Israel conducted airstrikes on southern suburbs of Beirut on Sunday, resulting in at least two fatalities and 20 injuries, according to Lebanon’s public health emergency operations center.
On the same day, Jordan’s government communications minister Mohammad Al Momani reported on social media platform ‘X’ that several missiles passed through Jordan’s airspace during the night.
Iran-backed Iraqi militia Kata’ib Hezbollah warned on Sunday night that if the U.S. attacks Iran, it would target American military bases and interests in the region. The Houthi group in Yemen also expressed support for Iran’s missile strikes against Israel.
Amid rising tensions in the region, Iraq announced a temporary closure of its airspace to all flights for 72 hours as a precaution. Syria also shut down its southern air routes for 12 hours and halted operations at Damascus International Airport.
According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim, Iran announced the closure of its western airspace until further notice.
