Noida, August 26: The health department has heightened its alert in Gautam Buddh Nagar due to a surge in swine flu cases. Approximately 120 cases have been reported in the district, prompting the department to issue an advisory for residents. Citizens are urged to avoid crowded places, maintain cleanliness, and cover their mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing. Additionally, the public is advised against taking any medication without consulting a doctor.
Health officials have placed hospitals and health centers on high alert, considering the changing weather and the rise in viral infections. Necessary arrangements for identifying, testing, and treating potential swine flu patients are being ensured. The availability of essential medications at health centers has also been confirmed to prevent any treatment delays for patients. A 20-bed ICU equipped with ventilators has been prepared to cater to serious patients.
Officials state that immediate treatment will be available for severe cases if needed. Continuous monitoring of medical facilities and medication availability in hospitals is being conducted. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Madan Mohan Mani Tripathi has urged the public to seek medical advice rather than panic if they exhibit swine flu symptoms. Symptoms such as cough, sore throat, fever, body aches, weakness, and difficulty breathing should not be ignored.
Extra precautions are particularly necessary for the elderly, young children, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions. The health department’s advisory recommends using a handkerchief, tissue, or elbow to cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Regular handwashing with soap is advised, along with avoiding close contact with infected individuals. Residents are also urged to refrain from unnecessary visits to crowded places.
Officials have clarified that self-medication is not advisable when swine flu symptoms appear. Many individuals tend to start treatment with over-the-counter medications for fever or cold symptoms, but the health department has cautioned against this practice.
