Jaipur, August 26: Rajasthan’s Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirori Lal Meena has tested positive for swine flu (H1N1) and was admitted to the ICU of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur late Tuesday night.
Due to a deterioration in his health, Dr. Meena was placed in Medical ICU bed number 2, which has been sealed for infection control. The hospital administration has implemented strict measures to ensure the safety of both the patient and the medical staff.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma spoke with Dr. Meena over the phone to inquire about his health. He also contacted Dr. Meena’s brother, Jagmohan, for updates on his condition. The Chief Minister has instructed Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, the principal of SMS Medical College, to ensure that Dr. Meena receives the best possible treatment.
To monitor the Agriculture Minister’s condition, the SMS Hospital administration has formed a special medical team. Doctors are continuously checking his health and providing necessary treatment. The news of the minister’s swine flu infection has raised concerns among his supporters, who are wishing for his swift recovery.
Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khivsar held a meeting with department officials on Tuesday to review measures for monitoring swine flu and other seasonal illnesses. Upon learning about Dr. Meena’s illness, Khivsar spoke with him over the phone to check on his health and instructed doctors to ensure immediate and appropriate treatment.
Govind Singh Dotasra, president of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, also expressed concern for the Agriculture Minister’s health in a post on X, wishing him a quick recovery.
According to health department statistics, Rajasthan reported 129 cases of swine flu in the first 15 days of August 2026. In the same period last year, only 16 cases were recorded, indicating an almost eightfold increase in cases year-on-year. However, there have been no reports of fatalities due to swine flu in Rajasthan this year.
Following an increase in flu cases in neighboring states like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, health officials in Rajasthan have heightened surveillance. Hospitals have been instructed to prepare isolation beds and other necessary arrangements.
Health experts state that the current infections are part of the seasonal pattern of H1N1 influenza and are not linked to any new virus or strain. Nevertheless, given the recent rise in cases, officials have advised maintaining ongoing monitoring and preparedness.
