Kathmandu, August 27: The devastating floods in Nepal on Wednesday have claimed at least 162 lives. Additionally, 41 injured individuals are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals. This information was confirmed by the Nepal Police on Thursday morning.
The Nepal Police reported on the social media platform ‘X’ that the bodies of 162 victims have been recovered. According to their data, the fatalities include 2 in Rasuwa, 12 in Nuwakot, 27 in Dhading, 64 in Chitwan, 20 in Gorkha, 9 in Tanahun, 26 in NP East, and 2 in NP West.
In their post on ‘X’, the Nepal Police mentioned that 41 injured individuals are being treated in different hospitals. Specifically, 20 are at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, 4 at the Trauma Center, 3 at Bir Hospital, 1 at Birendra Military Hospital, 1 at Green City, 3 at Norvic Hospital, and 9 at Trishuli Hospital.
Reports indicate that over 400 people are still missing. The Nepal Police have also stated that they have not been able to contact 28 police personnel. In Rasuwa district, they provided details indicating that contact has been made with only 13 out of 23 staff in Timure, 1 out of 9 in Rasuwagadhi, 5 out of 8 in Syafrubesi, 3 out of 8 in Mailung, 9 out of 10 in Betrawati, and 5 out of 6 in Haku.
The floodwaters began to rise rapidly in the Bhotekoshi River around 9 AM local time on Wednesday. Reports suggest that the water originated from Tibet. The Nepal Army stated that the sudden surge caused significant destruction in the Timure and nearby Syafrubesi areas of Rasuwa district, sweeping away vehicles, goods, and other properties.
