Guwahati, May 7: Assam’s Finance Minister Ajanta Neog stated on Thursday that the increasing number of women legislators elected on BJP tickets in the Assam Assembly elections symbolizes growing public trust in the party’s government and leadership.
In a conversation with reporters, Neog highlighted that this time, the BJP achieved a significantly larger victory margin in the state, which she termed a “historic mandate.” She credited this success to the party leadership and the dedication of workers at all levels.
“The victory margin has increased considerably this time. This is a historic mandate, and it is due to the hard work of BJP’s leadership and workers at every level,” Neog remarked.
She congratulated party workers for their extensive campaigning and organizational efforts during the elections. Neog noted that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership played a crucial role in strengthening public support for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
She emphasized that the welfare schemes and development initiatives launched by the state government in recent years have directly benefited the common people, further solidifying their trust in the BJP.
“The government’s policies and welfare schemes reached the common citizens directly, which is why public trust in the BJP has increased,” Neog stated.
This election saw seven women legislators elected on BJP tickets, an increase from five in the previous assembly.
Referring to the Women’s Reservation Bill, she expressed disappointment that the law had not yet been enacted, despite hopes for its early passage.
“We had hoped that the Women’s Reservation Bill would be passed by now, but unfortunately, that has not happened,” she said.
Neog accused opposition parties, particularly Congress and its allies, of not taking women’s political participation seriously. She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives for women’s empowerment, asserting that the proposed reservation system would play a significant role in enhancing women’s participation in politics.
She expressed confidence that increased representation of women in legislatures would strengthen the democratic process and policy-making in the future.
