Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takichi Arrives in New Delhi for Three-Day Official Visit

New Delhi, July 1: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takichi has arrived in New Delhi for a three-day official visit from July 1 to July 3. During her stay, she will participate in the 16th India-Japan Summit.

Sanae Takichi is visiting India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks her first official trip to India since taking office.

According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), discussions during the summit will focus on reviewing and strengthening all aspects of bilateral cooperation. The two sides are also expected to address regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The statement noted, “This visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s trip to Tokyo for the 15th India-Japan Summit in August 2025. It reflects the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen the ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ between India and Japan.”

Earlier, on June 16, Prime Minister Modi met with Sanae Takichi during the G7 Summit in France. He emphasized that India and Japan will continue to enhance their relations across various sectors.

PM Modi posted on ‘X’, stating, “Had a very productive conversation with Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takichi. India and Japan will continue to strengthen our relations across various sectors, prioritizing trade and investment.”

In May, Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi met with PM Modi in New Delhi. He reiterated the crucial role of the ‘India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ in promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Following the meeting, PM Modi wrote on ‘X’, “It was a pleasure to welcome Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. We reaffirmed the importance of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which is vital for promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.”

Foreign Minister Motegi noted that several initiatives are underway in areas such as security, economy, investment, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges, based on the ‘Next 10 Years Japan-India Joint Vision’ announced during PM Modi’s visit to Japan last year.

Additionally, a statement from the Japanese Foreign Ministry indicated that both sides have agreed to collaborate towards creating a strong and prosperous Indo-Pacific under a developed ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’. They confirmed their commitment to achieving concrete results in economic development and enhancing cooperation in economic security through investment, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

It is noteworthy that India and Japan share a ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ with a long history of friendship based on spiritual ties and strong cultural connections. India’s ‘Act East Policy’, the ‘Indo-Pacific Vision’ based on the ‘SAGAR’ principle, and the ‘Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative’ align with Japan’s vision of a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’, showcasing mutual synergy.
