Drone Attack in Peshawar Claims Womans Life, Injures Six from Same Family

Peshawar, July 1: A suspected drone attack in the outskirts of Peshawar, Pakistan, resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to six members of the same family. The incident occurred late Tuesday night in the Pastawana area of the Hassan Khel sub-division.

Following the attack, panic spread throughout the region, and the injured were promptly rushed to the hospital.

According to local sources cited by Dawn, all seven injured individuals belonged to the same family. Initial reports indicated that one woman’s condition was critical. Later, locals confirmed that Sher Mast and his 15-year-old son were still receiving treatment at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, while the other injured family members were discharged after receiving first aid.

A local elder from Hassan Khel confirmed that Sher Mast’s daughter-in-law succumbed to her injuries during treatment. It remains unclear who was behind the drone attack and what its intentions were. Security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident.

Notably, in April, a suspected drone attack in the Chandoqa area of the Hassan Khel sub-division caused minor damage to a mosque, although there were no casualties in that incident. The Chandoqa region is located on the border between Peshawar and Kohat.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army claimed that four rudimentary drones were sent from Afghanistan into Balochistan on Tuesday, which were detected and shot down by the Pakistani air defense system. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), these drones were part of a policy by the Afghan Taliban regime to support and shelter terrorist organizations active in areas under Afghan control.

The ISPR stated that the air defense system quickly identified all of these drones. Security forces successfully neutralized all four drones using advanced technology and countermeasures. The army reported that due to swift action, no damage occurred, and all attempts were thwarted.

The Pakistani military accused the Afghan Taliban regime of engaging in such activities to distract its own citizens. The ISPR emphasized that this irresponsible behavior exacerbates the difficulties faced by the Afghan people.
