Bhopal, June 30: The Congress party intensified its criticism of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. Opposition leader Umang Singhar alleged that mining leases are being renewed despite outstanding fines of approximately ₹305.97 crore on lease-holders.
During a press conference, Singhar claimed that instead of recovering the dues, the state government is favoring the mining mafia by extending their leases. He referenced ongoing proceedings in the Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which has demanded a response from the government within a week.
Singhar stated, “The Mohan Yadav government appears to be overly lenient towards the mining mafia. Despite the outstanding fines of ₹305.97 crore, the government is renewing their mining leases instead of taking action to recover the dues.”
The Congress leader urged the Chief Minister, who also oversees the Mineral Resources Department, to clarify why mining leases are being renewed despite the outstanding fines.
He called for the government to recover the dues and make information about lease renewals public.
Singhar posted on X, “First, it was the land issue in Ujjain, and now renewing leases for the mining mafia without recovering ₹305 crore. CM Mohan Yadav, you are the Minister for Mineral Resources. You must answer this. The people of Madhya Pradesh want to know why the government is showing such leniency towards the mining mafia.”
He accused the government’s actions of raising serious questions about its handling of the mining sector and demanded greater transparency in the renewal of mining leases.
These allegations come amid escalating political tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh. Recently, Congress has targeted Chief Minister Mohan Yadav over allegations related to land deals involving his family members.
The BJP dismissed these allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
The latest accusations regarding mining lease renewals have added a new dimension to the political battle, with Congress attempting to hold the state government accountable for its management of mineral resources.
As of now, the state government has not provided any official response to Singhar’s allegations regarding outstanding fines and lease renewals.
