Purnea, June 1: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) of Bihar has intensified its crackdown on corruption. In a recent operation, a revenue employee was arrested in Purnea district while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
The action was taken on Monday after a complaint was verified, sparking discussions within administrative circles.
Rupak Kumar, a revenue employee stationed at the K. Hatt Circle Office in Purnea, was accused of demanding money from a citizen in exchange for completing a government land-related task. Following this, the complainant contacted the Vigilance Investigation Bureau and filed a formal complaint regarding the alleged bribe.
After an initial investigation, the VIB found the allegations to be credible. Officials set a trap to catch the accused red-handed.
According to the investigation, the revenue employee requested ₹10,000 to complete the necessary administrative work. When the complainant handed over the agreed amount, the vigilance team swiftly acted and apprehended Rupak Kumar in the act of accepting the bribe.
Currently, vigilance officials are interrogating him. A case has been registered, and further legal proceedings have commenced.
Authorities have indicated that investigators are also looking into whether any other government employees or officials were involved in this case. The scope of the investigation may expand if additional evidence emerges during the inquiry.
The Revenue and Land Reforms Department frequently faces complaints related to alleged bribery and illegal demands for money, particularly concerning land conversion, record corrections, and other revenue-related services.
This recent action in Purnea is viewed as another example of the state’s efforts to curb corruption in public offices.
