Remembering Yogesh: The Lyricist Who Captured Hearts

Mumbai, May 28: Renowned Bollywood lyricist and writer Yogesh Gaur passed away on May 29, 2020, due to illness. He moved from Lucknow to Mumbai at the age of 16 in search of work and left an indelible mark on the industry with his remarkable songs from the 60s and 70s, which continue to resonate with audiences today.

Born on March 19, 1943, in Lucknow, Yogesh pursued his dreams in Mumbai, successfully establishing his identity in the film industry. His poignant songs, such as “Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye” and “Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli,” still evoke deep emotions in listeners, touching the very core of their hearts.

Yogesh’s compositions conveyed profound feelings through simple words. He skillfully wove themes of life’s uncertainties, love, sadness, and beauty into his lyrics. His passing marked the end of an era in Hindi cinema, yet his songs continue to echo in the hearts of many.

Among his other memorable tracks are “Rajnigandha Phool Tumhare,” “Kai Baar Yoon Hi Dekha Hai,” “Rimjhim Gire Sawan,” “Badi Soni Soni Hai,” and “Aaye Tum Yaad Mujhe.” He collaborated with legendary directors like Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee and also contributed to television serials.

Yogesh penned songs for films featuring the music duo Nikhil-Vinay, including “Bewafa Sanam,” “Chor Aur Chand,” “Dulara,” and “English Babu Desi Mem.” With thousands of songs to his credit, he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Yash Bharti Award for his exceptional contributions to music. There was a time when no film was complete without a song by Yogesh.
