New Delhi, June 16: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta paid tribute to the first Chief Minister of the national capital, Chaudhary Brahm Prakash, on Tuesday. He praised Brahm Prakash’s vision and leadership, which significantly shaped the city’s democratic and developmental journey.
Addressing an event held in the Delhi Assembly complex on the occasion of the former Chief Minister’s 108th birth anniversary, Gupta stated, “The story of modern Delhi cannot be written without acknowledging Chaudhary Brahm Prakash’s extraordinary contributions.”
He highlighted that Brahm Prakash dedicated himself to India’s freedom struggle at a young age, participating in the fight against British rule without seeking any political position or personal gain.
Gupta noted that Brahm Prakash entered public life solely to contribute to the nation’s independence. He displayed remarkable courage during a time when opposing colonial rule was no small feat.
The Speaker emphasized that Brahm Prakash led a life grounded in simplicity and principles while tirelessly working for the development of Delhi, the welfare of farmers, and addressing national issues.
He remarked that despite holding positions of power, Brahm Prakash never strayed from the path of struggle and remained steadfast to the ideals for which he fought during the freedom movement.
The event was attended by Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, BJP legislators Om Prakash Sharma and Rajkumar Bhatia, along with family members and relatives of Chaudhary Brahm Prakash.
Gupta also mentioned that courage and unwavering faith were key traits of Brahm Prakash’s personality.
Referencing the differences he had with then-Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Gupta noted that despite Nehru’s prominence in national politics, Brahm Prakash never hesitated to voice his concerns whenever he felt it was necessary for the interests of Delhi and its people.
The Speaker remarked that Brahm Prakash’s actions reflected a profound sense of responsibility towards the citizens he represented.
While discussing the statue of Chaudhary Brahm Prakash installed in the Delhi Assembly complex, Gupta stated that it symbolizes the immense respect and recognition he earned through his lifelong service.
He recalled how former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, then the leader of the opposition, visited the Delhi Assembly complex to inaugurate the statue and pay homage to the renowned leader.
