Bhopal, 27 August (Kiran News): Residents of Madhya Pradesh received relief from heavy rain today as the strong rain system over the state weakened. According to the Meteorological Department, no district in the state is under a heavy rainfall alert for Wednesday. Most districts are expected to experience only light rain or drizzles.

Heavy Rain

The weather department stated that a monsoon trough was passing over the state, resulting in light rain in several districts on Tuesday. By Wednesday, this trough will have moved away from Madhya Pradesh, reducing the likelihood of heavy rainfall. However, from 28 August onwards, a new rain system is expected to become active, which may bring another round of heavy rain, especially in the southern parts of the state.

On Tuesday, Ratlam, Mandsaur, and several other districts experienced heavy showers. Waterlogging was reported at various intersections in Ratlam, while the Shivna River in Mandsaur rose above danger levels. In Jabalpur, nine gates of the Bargi Dam were opened, and in Narmadapuram, three gates of the Tawa Dam remained open. Ratlam received around 1.25 inches of rain, while light rainfall was recorded in Narmadapuram, Ujjain, Damoh, Khajuraho, Naugaon, and Umaria. In Narmadapuram, three gates of the Tawa Dam were opened two feet high each to release 10,000 cusecs of water. The Shivna River in Mandsaur overflowed the Nahargarh Billod bridge.

Among all districts, Guna has received the highest rainfall so far, recording 53.3 inches. Mandla follows with 52.8 inches, Ashoknagar with 50.5 inches, Sheopur with 49.9 inches, and Shivpuri with 49.7 inches. The five districts with the lowest rainfall are all from the Indore division, with Indore itself recording the lowest average at 16.3 inches. Burhanpur has received 18.7 inches, Khargone 19.8 inches, Khandwa 19 inches, and Barwani less than 20 inches of rain. These districts are unlikely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the southern parts of the state on 28, 29, and 30 August. So far, the state has recorded an average of 35.6 inches of rain.
