New Delhi, May 2: Re-voting is taking place today at 15 polling booths in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, specifically in the Magrahat (West) and Diamond Harbour assembly constituencies. This decision follows complaints of electoral fraud during the second phase of voting on April 29, prompting the Election Commission to call for a re-vote.
Of the 15 booths, 11 are located in Magrahat (West) and 4 in Diamond Harbour. Voting commenced at 7 AM. Voters were seen queuing outside polling station number 117 at Bagda Junior High School in the Diamond Harbour constituency.
Before the re-vote, one voter remarked, “The first voting went well. We later learned that it was canceled here. The arrangements are good this time too. We have no issues; this is the first time we’ve seen something like this.”
Another voter stated, “I will cast my vote and then head to work. The arrangements are good, and everything is running smoothly.”
A female voter in Diamond Harbour shared, “We woke up at 6 AM to come for the first voting. The arrangements at the polling booth are good, and there’s no reason to be afraid. Good work has been done, and we hope it will only get better.”
The Election Commission announced on Friday that re-voting would occur at these 15 polling booths under the two assembly constituencies. This decision was made based on reports from returning officers and observers regarding widespread complaints of electoral fraud on voting day.
