Chandigarh, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Daljit Singh Cheema, has launched a scathing attack on Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann, the wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, following serious allegations of corruption and complicity in a sexual assault case.
In an interview with a news agency, Cheema stated, “The incident at the Chief Minister‘s residence and the allegations against his wife are extremely serious. If you, as a woman, are accused of brokering a deal worth 5 crores to protect a sexual assault accused, how can women in Punjab feel safe?”
He emphasized that women typically seek help from high-ranking officials’ families when no one else listens. However, in this case, the situation appears reversed. Cheema criticized the Chief Minister for not having the courage to refer the matter to the CBI, saying, “With such serious allegations against you and your relatives, how can you grant yourself a clean chit?”
Cheema argued that Mann should have upheld the dignity of his office by stating he would not continue as Chief Minister until he received a clean chit. He pointed out that Mann, Arvind Kejriwal, and Manish Sisodia have remained silent on the issue, urging them to awaken their conscience, especially since they previously made grand statements during protests at India Gate.
He further claimed that the Chief Minister’s office has become a hub of corruption, revealing that the Enforcement Directorate has sent three letters requesting an FIR against Mann’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
Cheema also accused Kejriwal’s leadership of establishing a “new East India Company” in Punjab, which he alleges is dividing the people. He mentioned plans to offer 60 percent of jobs to some employees while dismissing others, creating discord among the workforce.
He concluded by highlighting a recent court ruling that mandated the disbursement of Dearness Allowance (DA) within 15 days, a directive that has reportedly been ignored, leading to contempt of court. “Who gave them the authority to overturn the High Court’s decision?” he questioned.
