New Delhi, June 23: Congress leader Rashid Alvi has responded to comments made by Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, spokesperson for the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). Alvi accused the BJP of working against Muslims and fostering animosity towards them. He stated that over the past 12 years, BJP governments and their chief ministers have targeted the Muslim community.
In an interview, Alvi noted that during this period, mosques have been demolished, restrictions have been placed on madrasas, and questions have arisen regarding their registration. He emphasized that inquiries about madrasa registrations have become commonplace.
Alvi alleged that for the last 12 years, Muslims, their cemeteries, and mosques have been deliberately targeted. He criticized chief ministers who spread hatred and make venomous statements against Muslims. According to him, the BJP believes it can gain power by politically attacking Muslims and inciting hatred against them. He pointed out that issues like hunger, unemployment, and rising prices of essential goods do not concern the BJP. Instead, topics such as Waqf, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), triple talaq, mosques, and cemeteries are their priorities.
Alvi accused the BJP of spreading hatred across the country, from grassroots organizations to top leadership. When asked if he considers this a violation of Muslim rights, he asserted that nothing could be a greater infringement on rights. He claimed that an atmosphere of fear and terror is being created among Muslims.
He stated that any attack on a community’s religion is a serious matter. Alvi mentioned that people are being prevented from offering prayers in public spaces. He expressed concern over reports from Moradabad and Sambhal, stating that such atrocities against a single community are alarming.
