Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Six Districts of Tamil Nadu

Chennai, June 27: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in six districts of Tamil Nadu. This weather pattern is influenced by an upper air trough extending from coastal Andhra Pradesh to central Maharashtra, affecting the weather in southern India.

According to the weather department, the upper air trough, a low-pressure area, stretches from coastal Andhra Pradesh through Telangana and into central Maharashtra. As a result, sporadic rainfall is expected in various parts of Tamil Nadu, as well as in the Union Territory of Puducherry and Karaikal over the next week.

On Saturday, the RMC predicted heavy rainfall with strong winds in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, and Ranipet districts. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain cautious, as heavy rain and strong winds could lead to flooding, traffic disruptions, and localized damage.

In the coming days, widespread rainfall is anticipated across several southern and western districts. On Sunday, heavy rain is likely in the hilly regions of Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli districts.

Similar weather conditions are expected in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, and Kanyakumari districts, where moderate to heavy rainfall may occur.

Meteorological experts indicate that the current atmospheric conditions are increasing humidity levels in Tamil Nadu, resulting in significant rainfall.

While this rain is expected to provide relief from the current heat, officials have warned that heavy downpours in certain areas could lead to temporary flooding in low-lying regions, impacting daily life.

Meanwhile, the weather department has issued a marine warning for fishermen operating along the southern Tamil Nadu coast. Strong winds of up to 60 km/h are expected in coastal areas, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Comorin Sea until June 30.

Due to the anticipated rough sea conditions and stormy weather, fishermen are strongly advised to avoid these areas during the warning period.

Officials are closely monitoring the changing weather conditions and have urged the public to stay updated with official weather information and to follow local authorities’ advice for safety during adverse weather.
