Tragic Collision in Karnataka Claims Four Lives

Bengaluru, June 27: A tragic accident in Karnataka’s Koppal district resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left several others injured. The victims were members of the same family. The injured have been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

According to police reports, the collision occurred on Saturday morning near Banapur on National Highway 63 in the Yalaburgi taluk. The family was traveling from Rattihalli village in the Hirekerur taluk of Haveri district to visit Sri Raghavendra Swami in Mantralayam.

It has been reported that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle, crossing the divider and colliding head-on with an oncoming Omni van, resulting in the fatalities. Many passengers sustained injuries, with two in critical condition.

This incident follows a series of road accidents in Koppal, where eight people lost their lives in two separate incidents last month. On May 21, a collision between a tipper lorry and a motorcycle near Adur-Rajur village on National Highway 365 bypass resulted in the immediate deaths of two motorcyclists. The deceased were identified as Basanna Googeri (55) and Shankarappa Sutrarotti (48), both residents of Balutigi village in Yalaburgi.

The motorcycle was struck by a heavy lorry carrying cement from Akkialur in Haveri district, leading to a devastating crash that crushed the bike completely. Initial investigations revealed that the lorry driver, Mallappa, was heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident, prompting police to arrest him at the scene.

Additionally, on May 15, a collision between a truck and a tractor on National Highway 50, near the border of Koppal and Vijayapura districts, resulted in the deaths of six people, including a one-year-old child. The impact was so severe that the tractor fell off a bridge, injuring nine others, all of whom were relatives traveling to visit the famous Huligemma temple in Hulagi village.
