
New Delhi, June 27: The Indian Embassy in Doha announced on Friday that the bodies of all 12 Indian nationals who lost their lives in the industrial accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar have been sent back to India. Embassy officials also met with injured Indian workers hospitalized in the region.
In a post shared on the social media platform X, the Indian Embassy stated, “The bodies of eight Indian citizens who tragically lost their lives in the Ras Laffan accident were sent to India on June 26. Earlier, four other bodies were sent on June 25.”
The embassy expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the process of repatriating the bodies, saying, “The Indian Embassy thanks the Qatari authorities, Indian community organizations, and government officials in India for their prompt assistance.”
Regarding the condition of the injured, the embassy reported that its officials visited Indian nationals admitted to hospitals. “The ambassador and embassy officials met with some injured Indian citizens hospitalized in Al Khor today. All injured individuals are receiving appropriate medical care. The embassy appreciates the support from Qatari officials and representatives of the employing company,” it added.
The industrial accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City resulted in the deaths of 12 Indian nationals among other workers. Following the incident, the governments of India and Qatar collaborated to ensure the treatment of the injured and the repatriation of the deceased.
According to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Interior on Monday, the accident occurred due to a technical failure during operations at a factory, resulting in the deaths of 13 people and injuries to 66 others. The ministry also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
In a statement on X, the Qatari Ministry of Energy explained that an operational incident occurred during a startup at the Ras Laffan Industrial City, leading to an explosion and fire at the Burjan local gas supply facility on the evening of June 21, 2026.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Qatari Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his phone call and condolences regarding the deaths of Indian citizens in the Ras Laffan Industrial City accident.
The Prime Minister stated, “I thank the Amir of Qatar for his phone call and condolences regarding the tragic deaths of Indian citizens in the Ras Laffan Industrial City accident. We both share in the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”
He emphasized that India and Qatar remain committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of their citizens and standing together in difficult times.
