PM Modi Embarks on Seychelles Visit to Enhance Maritime Cooperation and Security in the Indian Ocean Region

New Delhi, June 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for Seychelles. Before his departure on Saturday, he expressed confidence that his visit would enhance maritime cooperation and advance the vision of a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Indian Ocean region.

On the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “I am heading to Seychelles to participate in their National Day celebrations. This year is particularly special as it marks the Golden Jubilee.”

PM Modi is on a three-day state visit to Seychelles, where he will be the chief guest at the country’s National Day Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Regarding his trip, PM Modi stated, “At the invitation of President Dr. Patrick Herminie of the Republic of Seychelles, I will undertake a state visit from June 27-29, 2026, to participate in the Golden Jubilee of Seychelles’ National Day.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that Seychelles is an important maritime neighbor of India in the Indian Ocean region and a key partner in the ‘Vision Ocean’ initiative. He noted that both nations share a commitment to advancing the interests and priorities of the Global South.

He added, “This year, we also celebrate the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, based on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity, and deep connections between our peoples.”

This visit comes just a few months after President Herminie visited India in February 2026. During his trip, PM Modi will engage in bilateral discussions with President Herminie and address the Seychelles National Assembly, as well as meet with members of the Indian community.

PM Modi expressed his eagerness for discussions with the President, aimed at strengthening their enduring friendship. He stated, “Together, we will work to advance the progress of our people and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.”

As the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Seychelles National Assembly, PM Modi remarked, “This historic opportunity reflects the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions that bind our two countries.”

He also expressed anticipation for engaging with the Indian community in Seychelles, which has fostered a special friendship between India and Seychelles for generations, serving as a bridge between the two nations.

PM Modi concluded, “I am confident that my visit will deepen the long-standing ties between our countries, enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region, and advance our shared vision of a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Indian Ocean.”
