Jaipur, July 2: The Rajasthan CID Intelligence has uncovered a significant network involved in anti-national activities. Authorities reported the arrest of an individual operating a funding channel for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. This arrest marks a crucial development in an ongoing investigation under the Official Secrets Act of 1923.
According to officials, the accused, Rafiq Chand Sheikh, a resident of Aurangabad, Maharashtra, facilitated the transfer of funds to individuals suspected of engaging in espionage activities in India on behalf of ISI handlers.
Previously, two individuals were arrested for allegedly providing sensitive information related to the Indian Armed Forces to ISI handlers. These included Jhabra Ram from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and Sumit Kumar, a Multi-Tasking Staff employee stationed at the Indian Air Force base in Dibrugarh, Assam.
During the investigation, CID Intelligence officials traced financial transactions and discovered that funds were sent through Rafiq Chand Sheikh, also known as Chand Mia Sheikh, by ISI operatives in exchange for espionage activities.
Interrogation of Rafiq revealed that he had reportedly been in contact with an ISI handler for nearly four years. Officials stated that he opened multiple bank accounts in his and others’ names, following instructions from a network linked to social media platforms, to facilitate payments to those allegedly involved in espionage.
After confirming the alleged financial transactions and identifying his role in the network, Rajasthan CID (Intelligence) arrested Rafiq Chand Sheikh on June 30.
Authorities accuse him of acting as a funding agent for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, facilitating the transfer of money to suspected operatives within the country. The CID (Intelligence) confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with officials examining other individuals who may be connected to the alleged ISI funding network.
They are also investigating additional financial transactions and potential connections to uncover the full extent of the network and identify all involved parties.
