Jaipur, June 30: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed gratitude to BJP workers and the public for their grand welcome upon his return to Jaipur after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Yamuna Water Project. He targeted former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and the Congress party, accusing them of making promises to provide water from the Yamuna to Shekhawati but failing to take serious steps to advance the project over the years.
At various locations from Jaipur Airport to the Chief Minister’s residence, BJP workers, representatives, and citizens welcomed him. People from the Shekhawati region showered him with flowers, presented him with traditional turbans, garlands, and water pots, and honored him with the title ‘Bhagirath,’ attributing the credit for bringing Yamuna water to Rajasthan to him.
The Chief Minister declared that June 29 marked a historic day for Rajasthan. He congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the state’s 80 million residents for the Yamuna water agreement and thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for their support.
He stated that this project will supply Yamuna water to the districts of Jhunjhunu, Churu, and Sikar, promoting agriculture, tourism, and industry in the Shekhawati region, and creating new employment opportunities.
While attacking Congress, the Chief Minister noted that even when both Rajasthan and Haryana had Congress governments, there was no effective coordination to advance this project. He also claimed that the Haryana Congress had mentioned in its manifesto the cancellation of the Yamuna water agreement, raising questions about Ashok Gehlot’s commitment to the project, given his presence at the same platform.
Bhajanlal Sharma asserted that the promise he made in the Rajasthan Assembly to bring Yamuna water to Shekhawati is now being fulfilled. He explained that the project has been expedited with the cooperation of the central and Haryana governments. Following the signing of the MoU on February 17, 2024, a task force was formed, and a detailed project report (DPR) was prepared.
According to the Chief Minister, this project, costing over ₹34,000 crores, will involve laying a 3.6-meter diameter pipeline to transport Yamuna water to the Shekhawati region.
He mentioned that the state government has developed a clear roadmap for development, also accelerating pending water projects like the Ramjal Setu Link Project, Indira Gandhi Canal Project, Ganga Canal, Devas, and Mahi.
The Chief Minister claimed that during the previous Congress government, Rajasthan was often in the news for paper leaks, corruption, gang activities, and crimes against women, while the current BJP government focuses on employment, farmer welfare, and industrial development. He noted that farmers in 26 districts of the state now receive electricity during the day, and Rajasthan is also supplying power to other states.
