Riyadh, September 2: The US Embassy has issued a security alert advising American citizens residing in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant amid escalating tensions following attacks on Iran. The embassy highlighted that the security situation in the region remains complex, and sudden increases in tension cannot be ruled out.
This alert was shared on the social media platform X on Wednesday. It advised American citizens in the Middle East to exercise heightened caution. They should prepare for potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions, and check their flight status directly with their airlines.
The security alert emphasized the importance of staying updated on the latest information regarding airport operations and airlines in the region.
Additionally, the US mission warned that diplomatic establishments outside the Middle East could also be targeted. According to the embassy, Iran and Iran-backed groups may target American interests worldwide, including American citizens, US-affiliated locations, companies, and other institutions.
The embassy confirmed that both regular and emergency consular services are available for American citizens in Saudi Arabia. Citizens are encouraged to contact the nearest US embassy or consulate if needed.
American citizens were also advised to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the latest security updates and facilitate communication with the embassy during emergencies.
In the event of airstrikes, citizens are urged to stay away from glass doors and windows and avoid falling debris. They should keep their mobile phones charged and save emergency numbers in advance.
The US mission advised citizens to completely avoid protests and large gatherings, steer clear of areas with heavy police presence, monitor local media and official directives, and remain alert to their surroundings. Special caution is recommended in public places associated with the US, and citizens should minimize their visibility.
This warning comes at a time of ongoing tensions in the Middle East, with rising concerns over military activities and potential retaliatory actions. The US Embassy urged citizens to be prepared for any unexpected changes in the situation and to rely on the latest official information when making travel decisions.
