Jaipur, June 30: A long-standing dispute over the distribution of water from the Yamuna River between Haryana and Rajasthan has finally been resolved. In the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, both states signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Yamuna water project. Under this agreement, Haryana will supply drinking water to Rajasthan through an underground pipeline network during the monsoon season.
The project aims to provide clean drinking water to districts in Rajasthan that are grappling with severe water shortages. The underground pipeline is expected to bring relief to millions, particularly benefiting areas in the Shekhawati region, including Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar. Additionally, this agreement is seen as crucial for agriculture and irrigation.
Following the agreement, BJP leaders and ministers hailed it as a historic achievement for Rajasthan, commending Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma for his efforts.
Rajasthan Minister Jogaram Patel stated that this is a landmark decision for the state. He noted that Chief Minister Sharma’s persistent efforts led to significant support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, resulting in a major boon for drinking water in Rajasthan. He emphasized that gratitude should be expressed for this achievement.
BJP MP C.P. Joshi remarked that what was deemed impossible for years has now become a reality. He thanked Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, and Chief Minister Sharma, stating that the people of Rajasthan had long awaited this agreement. He described it as an example of results-oriented politics, where promises are fulfilled.
Joshi criticized the Congress party, stating that previous governments only made announcements, while the current government has delivered tangible results. He pointed out that opposition questions Chief Minister Sharma’s visits to Delhi, yet he consistently returns with significant achievements for Rajasthan. According to him, this agreement will be a lifeline for the Shekhawati region in the coming years.
Minister Avinash Gehlot also labeled the agreement as a historic milestone, asserting that the BJP is now fulfilling its pre-election promises. He stated that the guarantee provided by Prime Minister Modi has led to the realization of the long-pending Yamuna water agreement.
Gehlot mentioned that efforts have been ongoing for nearly two and a half years. Following the initial agreement in 2024, the finalization will bring relief to millions. He added that not only will the Shekhawati region receive drinking water, but sufficient water for irrigation will also be made available.
Gehlot criticized the opposition for raising questions whenever the government undertakes significant initiatives. He urged the opposition to welcome this achievement, highlighting that what could not be accomplished in 32 years has now been made possible by Chief Minister Sharma. He believes that Sharma’s name will be particularly remembered for his contributions to water management in the future.
Rajasthan Minister Madan Dilawar asserted that this agreement provides a strong response to the opposition. He stated that water from the Yamuna will now reach Rajasthan, bringing joy to millions of farmers and common people. He emphasized that this is not just a political achievement but a new chapter in the state’s development.
Minister Krishna Kumar (K.K.) Vishnoi praised Chief Minister Sharma’s efforts, noting that both the ERC and the Yamuna water agreement will serve as milestones for Rajasthan. He pointed out that despite decades of independence, the Shekhawati region has struggled with severe water issues, but now there is hope for resolution.
He expressed confidence that for the first time, people believe that water from Haryana will indeed reach Rajasthan. Vishnoi also thanked Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah.
On this occasion, Vishnoi highlighted other major projects underway in the state, including the refinery, Bharat Mala project, and road network, which are elevating Rajasthan to new heights.
BJP MLA Bal Mukund Acharya stated that this is not merely an agreement but a decision that will transform Rajasthan’s future. He noted that the public has placed their trust in the BJP government, resulting in a historic solution to the pressing issue of water scarcity.
He emphasized that the most significant need in Rajasthan has been water, and this agreement will largely fulfill that requirement. He stated that this is a significant step toward providing drinking water to every household and irrigation water to farmers’ fields. He believes this will enhance farmers’ incomes and strengthen the rural economy.
Acharya also mentioned Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit to Rajasthan, describing it as a golden opportunity. He noted that whenever the Prime Minister visits, the pace of development accelerates. Rajasthan is continuously reaching new heights of development. He compared Rajasthan’s rapid industrial and economic progress to the oil-based development seen in Gulf countries.
