Mumbai, June 30: The Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has successfully apprehended four suspects in a significant operation in Bathinda. The arrests followed an encounter between the police and the suspects. Authorities seized a Glock 9mm pistol, a .30 bore pistol, five live cartridges, and two empty shells from the suspects.
According to information shared by the Punjab DGP on the social media platform X, the operation took place near the Sirhind Canal Link Road in Bathinda. Initial investigations revealed that the arrested individuals are linked to a criminal network and were wanted in a recent criminal case registered in the Bhagat Bhai Ka police jurisdiction.
During the operation, one suspect sustained injuries. All four arrested individuals have criminal records and have been involved in multiple criminal cases.
An FIR has been lodged at the Cantt police station in Bathinda, and the police are continuing their investigation to uncover the suspects’ network, their associates, and the broader criminal activities involved.
Previously, the Amritsar Commissionerate police dismantled an illegal arms trafficking network operating across the border. Four suspects were arrested, and authorities recovered ten sophisticated pistols along with nine live cartridges.
Initial investigations indicated that the arrested suspects were operating under the direction of a trafficker based abroad. They were responsible for receiving shipments of illegal weapons through border routes and distributing them to criminal elements.
FIRs have been filed at the Cheherhta and Maqboolpura police stations in Amritsar. Investigations are ongoing to identify others connected to this network. The Punjab Police has reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against illegal arms trafficking, organized crime, and cross-border criminal networks, vowing to take strict action against such elements.
