Railways Revamp Tatkal Booking Rules for Easier Confirmed Tickets

Tatkal Ticket New Rules: Indian Railways has revamped the Tatkal ticket booking process to make it more transparent and fair. For years, passengers have complained that tickets sell out within seconds of booking opening. The railways now claim the updated system will greatly improve genuine passengers’ chances of getting confirmed tickets.

New Verification and Booking Process

Under the new guidelines, Tatkal tickets can only be booked through fully verified IRCTC accounts linked with Aadhaar or other government-issued IDs. Accounts without complete verification will be blocked from booking during the Tatkal window. Passengers must provide identification details matching their Aadhaar or official ID at the time of booking. This measure aims to prevent fake bookings and the resale of tickets at inflated prices.

Technical upgrades have also been introduced. Sophisticated filters have been installed to block auto-fill tools and scripts that previously allowed software to grab tickets instantly. This change ensures that tickets cannot be snapped up unfairly using automated systems. Payment gateways have been enhanced to be faster and more secure, reducing the risk of ticket cancellations at the final payment step.

Enhanced Monitoring of Agents

During the initial minutes of the Tatkal booking window, strict monitoring of agents will be conducted. New restrictions and tracking tools are in place to prioritise genuine passengers over agents, ensuring fair access to tickets.

What Has Changed for Passengers?

Railways have clarified that passengers with updated profiles linked to Aadhaar have a much higher chance of securing confirmed tickets compared to previous years. Travellers are advised to check their internet connectivity and profile details before booking.

The 2026 rule changes aim to bring transparency back to railway bookings and restore public trust in the system. Through technological improvements and mandatory identity verification, the railways are directly targeting middlemen and the misuse of booking software.
