Jabalpur, June 25: In a significant development, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has received major relief from the Madhya Pradesh High Court regarding comments he made about the family of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The case has been closed following Rahul Gandhi’s expression of regret and the acceptance of this by Kartikeya Singh Chouhan. The issue dates back to the 2018 assembly elections when Rahul Gandhi mentioned Kartikeya Singh Chouhan’s name in connection with the Panama Papers scandal. In response, Kartikeya filed a defamation suit in the MP MLA Court in Bhopal, which led to the issuance of a summons. Subsequently, Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer approached the High Court.
In the petition to quash the summons, Rahul Gandhi expressed regret in writing, stating that he mistakenly mentioned Kartikeya Singh Chouhan’s name. The court sought a response from Kartikeya Chouhan regarding this written apology. His lawyer requested the court to refrain from proceeding with the case. Based on the statements from both parties’ lawyers, Judge Pramod Agrawal closed the case. Rahul Gandhi was represented by Vivek Krishna Tankha, Ajay Gupta, Rajeev Mishra, and Aishwarya Sahu, while Kartikeya Chouhan was represented by lawyer Sankalp Kochhar.
