The CBI has arrested an SFIO deputy director and two others for allegedly soliciting ₹1 crore in bribes related to a fraud investigation.

New Delhi, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant arrests in a major corruption case involving a deputy director from the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) and two private individuals. This action comes in response to allegations of soliciting a bribe of ₹1 crore.
According to a press release from the CBI’s information section, the arrested individuals are Harish Kumar Tanwar, Bharat Sharma, and Aryan Sharma. Tanwar, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the 2017 batch, currently serves as a deputy director at the SFIO in Chennai. Bharat Sharma is a lawyer, and Aryan Sharma is related to him.
The CBI initiated the investigation after receiving a complaint alleging that the SFIO officer and the lawyer demanded ₹1 crore to help the complainant in a case related to the DHFL fraud, which is under investigation by the SFIO in Chennai. Following verification of the complaint and the filing of a First Information Report (FIR), the CBI arrested the deputy director, a lawyer based in Delhi, and another individual.
The arrests occurred when the lawyer accepted a partial payment of ₹20 lakh from the complainant as part of the bribe demanded by the SFIO officer. The CBI reported that searches conducted at the residences of the government employee and the lawyer uncovered several incriminating materials related to the case.
