New Delhi, August 16: In a recent statement, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi commended the courage of India’s youth in demanding accountability from the government. This remark came ahead of the ‘Students’ Echo’ event scheduled for August 22 in Pune.
Gandhi shared a video on the social media platform X, stating, “The bravery and strength with which the youth of India have stood up against Modi’s oppressive regime to demand accountability is commendable. They have raised their voices with peace, love, and humor.”
He expressed pride in every young individual, particularly the girls who faced harassment, abuse, and violence from BJP supporters, even being coerced into apologizing to the Prime Minister. “But now, their voices will not be silenced,” he asserted.
The upcoming ‘Students’ Echo’ event in Pune will focus exclusively on girls, Gandhi noted, adding that this time, “the girls will speak, and the nation will listen.” He also provided a link for participation in the event.
Additionally, Gandhi shared a video of a conversation with five young protesters involved in the NEET paper leak demonstration. During the discussion, the girls criticized police actions during the protests. One girl recounted, “The police were telling us that we were traitors.”
The young protesters claimed they received threats and abusive messages on social media. One young man alleged, “All the officials present were BJP favorites. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have taken such drastic measures. Just two days ago, we shared videos showing trucks loaded with stones. Those trucks were planted.”
He added, “The officer who hit me did not have a nameplate on his uniform. The Delhi police officers also lacked nameplates. They covered their faces with handkerchiefs and were in plain clothes, yet they were attacking everyone.”
In the conversation, Gandhi remarked, “Many people witness injustice, seeing others being beaten and threatened, yet they remain silent and continue with their work. I consider this a matter of nationhood and citizenship.”
He expressed his disbelief at the situation where protesters were intimidated into apologizing. Gandhi labeled Prime Minister Modi’s acceptance of apologies from students as “drama,” stating, “Three girls were forced to apologize, and the Prime Minister accepted this apology.”
