Bengaluru, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : In Bengaluru, the Karnataka BJP has launched a strong defense of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) recent raids on properties linked to Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkiholi. The raids, which took place on September 9, have ignited a political firestorm, with BJP leaders accusing the ruling Congress party of attempting to politicize the issue.
State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra, former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, and former state president Nalin Kumar Kateel voiced their concerns, asserting that the ED’s actions should be viewed as part of a legitimate investigative process rather than a political vendetta.
Vijayendra noted that the timing of the raids coincides with the BJP’s “Bellary Chalo” padyatra, now in its final stages. He emphasized that any connection between the two events is purely coincidental. “We must wait to see what facts emerge from the investigation,” he stated, adding that the Congress government is currently under scrutiny for corruption allegations.
He further criticized Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who has promised a corruption-free administration, while many of his ministers face serious corruption charges. “We had to mobilize to demand the removal of ministers implicated in corruption,” Vijayendra remarked.
Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Jagadish Shettar defended the ED’s actions, insisting that the agency operates based on available evidence, irrespective of political affiliations. “These agencies acted similarly when Congress was in power,” he stated.
Nalin Kumar Kateel reinforced the BJP’s long-standing claims of corruption within the Congress government, suggesting that the ongoing investigation could lead to further actions against other ministers. “If two or three ministers are removed before our padyatra concludes, it would not be surprising,” he warned.
In response to Congress’s allegations that the raids target leaders from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community, BJP representatives asserted that the ED is an independent agency, and its actions should not be linked to an individual’s caste or social background.
The ED’s actions against Jarkiholi and his associates have sparked fresh controversy in Karnataka’s political landscape. The Congress party alleges that the central government is misusing investigative agencies to harass opposition leaders, while the BJP maintains that the raids are part of an inquiry into alleged financial irregularities.
Tensions continue to rise as both parties prepare for the implications of these developments.
