Rahul Gandhi Expresses Condolences Over Death of Manipuri Musician, Calls for Justice

New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has expressed his sorrow over the death of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh. He has called for a swift investigation into the incident, which occurred after Singh was attacked by a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff outside his apartment.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Gandhi detailed the circumstances surrounding Singh’s death. He noted that the musician had gone outside to ask a group of individuals to lower their noise. Tragically, this request led to a fatal beating.

Gandhi highlighted the broader implications of this violence. He stated, “A father was killed outside his own home in the capital of his own country. Today, every North East family in Delhi is asking the same question – are we safe here?”

The Congress leader also criticized the Union Home Ministry and the Delhi Police for their handling of the situation. He questioned what measures were being taken to address the rising chaos, particularly against people from the North East. “There must be a fast investigation, and the culprits must face justice. My condolences to Chongtham Vikram’s family,” he added.

Authorities reported that the 54-year-old musician died early Monday morning outside his apartment in Kilokri village. It is alleged that he was assaulted after he objected to the noise and drinking outside his home.

The police have arrested seven individuals and taken a minor into custody in connection with the attack. A PCR call was received at the Sunlight Colony police station regarding the assault on Singh, a native of Manipur who had been living in Kilokri for several years.

Initial investigations revealed that Singh confronted a group of people making a ruckus outside his home. According to police, they retaliated with punches and slaps, resulting in severe injuries.

Singh’s son, Yaifaba, rushed him to Holy Family Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and Singh’s death.

The North East Students Society of Delhi University expressed their condolences for Singh, describing him as a “respected Manipuri musician” who had dedicated the last two decades of his life to music in Delhi.
