Punjab Police Seizes Nearly 43 Kg Heroin, Arms in Major Amritsar Bust

Amritsar Police, in a significant breakthrough against drug and illegal arms trafficking, have seized a large consignment of narcotics and weapons. Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav confirmed that the Amritsar rural police, with support from the Village Defence Committee (VDC), uncovered this major narco-arms shipment.

During the operation, authorities recovered 42.983 kilograms of heroin, four hand grenades, one Star Mark pistol, 46 live .30 bore cartridges, and an unclaimed motorcycle. According to the DGP, this is among the largest seizures related to drug and arms networks in the state in recent times.

In a post shared on social media platform X, DGP Gaurav Yadav stated, “Amritsar rural police, with assistance from the Village Defence Committee, have intercepted a significant consignment of narcotics and arms, recovering 42.983 kilograms of heroin, four hand grenades, one Star Mark pistol, 46 live .30 bore cartridges, and one abandoned motorcycle. Two suspects from Amritsar have been arrested following the seizure. Investigation is ongoing to trace other absconding accused, confirm the extent of the network, and expose the larger conspiracy. Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling drug and arms networks and ensuring peace and security across the state.”

This operation follows a similar crackdown on January 27, when the Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested four individuals linked to a cross-border narco-arms smuggling module. That earlier seizure included 1.5 kilograms of heroin, two advanced pistols (9mm and .30 bore), 34 live 9mm cartridges, and drug money amounting to ₹1.98 lakh.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused maintained contact with handlers abroad and were connected via social media platforms to smugglers based in Pakistan. Under their direction, illegal arms and heroin were smuggled across borders and distributed in various parts of Punjab. An FIR was registered at Amritsar Civil Lines police station in this regard.

Punjab Police has emphasized that operations against organised crime, drug trafficking, and illegal arms networks will continue unabated. Officials stated that efforts are being intensified through technological surveillance, grassroots intelligence gathering, and community cooperation to eradicate these cross-border criminal syndicates.
