Chennai, August 26: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has expressed deep sorrow over reports of several missing individuals, including residents of Tamil Nadu, due to sudden floods in Nepal. He has instructed state officials to search for the missing persons and provide all possible assistance to affected Tamil citizens.
Chief Minister Vijay stated on the social media platform X that he has directed senior officials at the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi to take immediate necessary actions. Emergency helpline numbers have also been issued to assist Tamil citizens and their families stranded in Nepal.
The Chief Minister’s Office mentioned that information about Tamil Nadu residents is being gathered through the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Nepal, with swift actions being taken to ensure their safety.
Meanwhile, DMK MP and former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, urging for the immediate rescue and safe return of Indian tourists stranded in Nepal.
In his letter, Maran stated that this request was made under the guidance of DMK President M.K. Stalin. He highlighted that the severe flash floods in Nepal have washed away roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure, severely impacting communication systems.
Reports indicate that many people have died, and several are missing, including nearly 50 tourists from Tamil Nadu, causing significant concern among their families.
Dayanidhi Maran urged the External Affairs Minister to direct the Indian Embassy in Nepal and rescue agencies to quickly locate the stranded Indians, ensure their safe rescue, and arrange for their return to India.
