Amritsar, May 23: The Punjab Police has been commended for dismantling a major cyber terrorism network and arresting the main suspect from West Bengal. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, the chief spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a legislator, praised the police’s efforts during a press conference in Amritsar.
Dhaliwal stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the AAP government has made it clear that any attempts to spread terror, fire weapons, or disrupt the state’s peace will not be tolerated.
He emphasized that in today’s digital age, cyber terrorism has emerged as a serious challenge. Elements are actively spreading fear by issuing false bomb threats to schools, colleges, and government buildings. In response, the Amritsar Police displayed bravery by apprehending the main suspect of a significant cyber terrorism network from West Bengal.
The arrested individual, a 30-year-old, had connections with several countries, including Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as various Indian states. He was part of a larger gang that spread terror through emails and WhatsApp groups across multiple states, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. This individual had also threatened to bomb the Punjab Secretariat, the Assembly, and the Sri Darbar Sahib.
Dhaliwal remarked, “Controlling cyber terrorism is much more challenging than dealing with conventional terrorism, as threats can be made from anywhere in the world, including the USA and Canada. Nevertheless, the Punjab Police has done an excellent job.” He urged the people of Punjab and Amritsar not to panic, assuring them that the AAP government is fully committed to the safety of every citizen.
During the press conference, he also referenced the ongoing campaign against drugs, stating that the Mann government has imprisoned major drug traffickers, a feat not accomplished by previous administrations.
Dhaliwal called on the central government to provide modern anti-drone technology and improved weapons to the BSF personnel stationed along Punjab’s 332-kilometer border. He reiterated that maintaining peace and security in Punjab is the top priority of the AAP government. Actions against both cyber crime and drug trafficking will continue unabated.
