Punjab Launches Second Phase of ‘War Against Drugs’ Campaign from January 5

Chandigarh: The Punjab government is set to commence the second phase of its statewide anti-drug campaign, ‘War Against Drugs’, starting from January 5. Following the success of the first phase, the campaign will now be intensified with stricter measures and wider public participation, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, informed Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond.

Minister Sond stated that during the initial phase, significant action was taken against drug traffickers, leading to the arrest of thousands and a substantial disruption of illegal drug networks. He added that the second phase will see even faster and tougher enforcement efforts aimed at achieving a drug-free Punjab.

A key feature of the upcoming phase is the involvement of youths who have successfully overcome addiction and undergone rehabilitation. These individuals will participate as motivational speakers, sharing their experiences to educate the public about the harmful effects of drugs and inspire others to quit substance abuse.

Since the launch of the campaign on March 1, 2025, under the guidance of DGP Gaurav Yadav, Punjab Police have registered 29,351 First Information Reports and arrested 42,622 drug traffickers. The operations have also resulted in the seizure of 1,849 kilograms of heroin. Daily coordinated operations are being conducted across all 28 police districts of the state.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has called upon police commissioners, deputy commissioners, and senior superintendents of police to work relentlessly towards making Punjab a drug-free state. To oversee this mission, the Punjab government has also formed a five-member cabinet sub-committee chaired by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
