Punjab-Haryana High Court Advocates Carpooling Amid Fuel Crisis

Chandigarh, May 22: The Punjab-Haryana High Court has emphasized the importance of carpooling and digital hearings in light of the ongoing fuel crisis. The court noted the current global fuel shortage and urged judges to adopt carpooling instead of commuting alone to the court. This initiative is expected to foster a positive change in the situation.

Additionally, the court stressed the need for digital hearings. It highlighted that judges should implement digital hearings in their practices rather than relying solely on physical hearings. This shift is anticipated to yield two primary benefits: reduced fuel consumption in vehicles and expedited hearings.

The court also mandated that the administration ensure uninterrupted internet access. Any disruption in internet speed could hinder the efficiency of hearings, making it crucial for the administration to address potential connectivity issues.

Furthermore, the court instructed that 33% of the staff working in the courts should work from home. This measure aims to reduce fuel consumption while maintaining workflow. The overarching goal is to ensure that operations remain unaffected under any circumstances.

The court expressed confidence that there would be no leniency in implementing these directives. Employees working in offices are also being encouraged to carpool and increase their reliance on public transportation. This approach is expected to yield multiple benefits in the coming days.
