New Delhi, May 19: The Punjab Congress has leveled serious allegations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Bhagwant Mann, claiming that it is drowning the state in debt. The Congress party stated that the AAP, which promised ‘change’ before coming to power, has not only failed to deliver on that promise but has also ensnared Punjab in a web of heavy borrowing.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Punjab Congress remarked, “The AAP came to Punjab promising change, and indeed, change has come. Punjab is now sinking deeper into debt every month. Instead of reducing the financial burden, they are continuously taking on new loans to cover up their failures.”
The Congress party further claimed that the Mann government has taken on a loan of ₹2,500 crores today. They argued that this is not economic management but rather a way to mortgage Punjab’s future, as citizens continue to suffer from inflation, unemployment, and broken promises.
On the other hand, Sunil Jakhar, the Punjab BJP president, criticized the Bhagwant Mann government while referencing the Mawan Dhiyaan Satkar scheme. He stated that the true face of the Mann government was revealed when its police force misbehaved with female legislator Ganiv Kaur Majithia. “I strongly condemn this arbitrary behavior of the police against a female legislator and other women. Punjab will operate on democratic principles, not through police machinery,” he asserted.
With assembly elections scheduled for 2027 in Punjab, both Congress and BJP have intensified their rhetoric against the AAP government. Opposition parties claim that the electricity system under this government is in disarray.
In response to the opposition’s claims, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a modern project to lay electricity wires underground in Satauj village on Tuesday. He explained that this initiative will not only enhance the beauty of our villages and towns but also provide complete safety to our urban and rural areas from power outages and accidents during storms or high winds.
