Punjab Cabinet Approves Ranjitgarh Development Authority Bill

Chandigarh, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has approved the Ranjitgarh Development Authority (RDA) Bill, 2026, during a meeting on October 5.

According to the Chief Minister’s office, this legislation aims to establish the Ranjitgarh Development Authority to facilitate planned, sustainable, and eco-tourism-focused development around the Ranjit Sagar and Shahpur Kandi dam areas.

The authority will function as a statutory body under the administrative control of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. It will be endowed with the necessary administrative, financial, and regulatory powers to oversee integrated development, land management, project implementation, and destination governance.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will chair the authority, with the Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs serving as the vice-chair. An executive committee, led by the Chief Secretary, will manage the daily operations and inter-departmental coordination.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the creation of new driver positions in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. These positions will be established by eliminating 19 permanent peon roles and one permanent clerk position, aimed at streamlining the office’s operations.

The Cabinet also sanctioned amendments to the Punjab Nursing Education Service Rules (Group B), 2016, to fill tutor positions through promotions at the Government College of Nursing in Patiala and the Government College of Nursing in Amritsar. These positions will be filled by staff nurses and nursing sisters who are regularly working under the Director of Research and Medical Education in Punjab and hold an MSc (Nursing) degree in the relevant specialty. Candidates with one year of teaching experience in nursing education will be prioritized.

Furthermore, the Cabinet agreed to regularize the services of non-teaching staff currently working on a contract basis under the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES). Those regularized will benefit from the salary structure established under PICTES.
