Chandigarh, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to launch four ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras’ from September 18 to 30, aimed at raising awareness against drug abuse and promoting a drug-free state.
On Monday, a delegation led by state president Kailash Singh Dhillon met with the Director General of Police (DGP) to discuss security and traffic arrangements for the upcoming tours. Dhillon emphasized the need for robust security measures along the entire route, including the starting and ending points, to ensure the safety of party leaders, central ministers, and the public.
The yatras will commence from Sujanpur in Pathankot, with stops in Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, and Talwandi Sabo. Dhillon announced that BJP National President Nitin Naveen will flag off the journey from the Unity Site in Sujanpur on September 18. Prominent figures, including Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Arjun Ram Meghwal, as well as Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, are expected to participate at various stages.
The concluding rally is scheduled for September 30 in Jalandhar, where a large crowd is anticipated. Dhillon urged the police to prevent any disruptions from anti-social elements during the yatras and to coordinate with district police officials to minimize public inconvenience through effective traffic management.
He stated that the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ is not merely a political initiative but a movement aimed at protecting Punjab’s youth and families from the dangers of drug abuse. Dhillon highlighted that drugs have become a significant challenge for the state, contributing to rising crime, gang culture, and extortion.
He criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government for failing to deliver on its promise to eradicate drugs within three months of taking office. Instead, he claimed that drugs are now being distributed across households in Punjab, while the government attempts to suppress voices raised against this issue to hide its failures.
