Hazaribagh, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha has launched a scathing critique of the central government regarding the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Speaking in Hazaribagh, he asserted that the ruling BJP is using this contentious issue to stoke communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims as the 2029 elections approach.
Sinha remarked, “The BJP and its allies have consistently worked towards this goal. They are promoting the Uniform Civil Code to further their agenda. I believe this is why the Home Minister has brought this issue to the forefront.” He also noted the discontent among BJP’s coalition partners regarding the UCC.
In discussing the recent BRICS summit, Sinha emphasized that the matter concerns the entire nation, not just individuals. He recalled how BRICS was established, referencing a Goldman Sachs official who predicted that by 2050, the five member countries, including India, would be among the world’s leading economies. The acronym BRICS comes from the initials of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Sinha highlighted the successful attendance of all invited heads of state at the summit, particularly praising the participation of the Presidents of China and Russia. He noted that prior to the summit, a meeting of foreign ministers in Delhi failed to produce a joint statement due to existing disagreements. However, he credited his officials for their hard work in drafting a consensus statement that was well-received by all attendees.
