New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Foreign affairs expert Wail Awad emphasized the necessity for partnership over rivalry between India and China during his recent remarks in New Delhi. He stated that both nations, as major players in Asia, can coexist harmoniously, especially following the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping.
Awad described their encounter as a significant step towards rebuilding trust and initiating a stable phase in bilateral relations. He noted, “As both leaders have reiterated, the world can accommodate these two giants of Asia. Instead of being rivals, they should forge a partnership.” He added that the meeting has strengthened confidence-building measures between the two nations, particularly through direct interactions and the chemistry shared by the leaders.
He believes that resolving the border issue amicably is crucial for enhancing trade, as India has made it clear that economic progress cannot be achieved without addressing the ongoing disputes. Awad remarked, “We need to see movement forward on this front.”
He also pointed out that the support for India’s concerns in the Delhi Declaration signals a convergence of perspectives between the two countries. The upcoming meeting in China next year is expected to promote South-South cooperation and lead towards a multipolar world, moving away from a unipolar dominance.
Commenting on the Modi-Xi meeting, Awad stated that effective dialogue and chemistry between top leaders pave the way for strategic planning. He underscored the global significance of this relationship, noting that both nations are among the most populous and rapidly developing countries, serving as leaders in South-South cooperation.
Awad expressed confidence that both sides are taking the situation seriously and acknowledged India’s strong position, particularly in its relations with the United States, the West, and other Asian nations. He concluded that it appears China is showing a greater willingness to resolve outstanding issues, particularly the border dispute.
